About the School

The Lea Primary School and Nursery is a wonderful community to be part of.  We enjoy a strong partnership with parents and carers; we have talented and committed staff, dedicated governors and most importantly – energetic, enthusiastic children.  Together we work tirelessly to help the children to be the best they can be.

The Lea is located in a quiet area on the north-east edge of Harpenden.  We are a welcoming one form entry school for boys and girls aged between three and eleven years.  As a small school there is a caring, family atmosphere where all children are taught the importance of consideration and respect for other people and their beliefs.  Visitors frequently remark on the friendly atmosphere that exists here.  Our children are happy to come to school and are well looked after by our extremely caring and committed staff who work hard to make sure every lesson is creative, challenging and relevant to our children.  We were rated GOOD by Ofsted in February 2018.

The vast majority of our pupils move on to Harpenden secondary schools when they leave Year 6 – in 2018, 16 of our pupils went to St George’s, 9 to Sir John Lawes and 4 to Roundwood Park.

The Curriculum

The aim of our teaching at The Lea is to introduce children to a wide range of rich and varied experiences which will extend their understanding of themselves and the world they live in and prepare them for “life in modern Britain”.  We offer a broad and balanced curriculum through which each child is given every opportunity to realise their full potential with a good growth mindset.  More information on our curriculum can be found here.

We welcome visitors and prospective families and would be very pleased to meet you and to give you a tour of our school. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

“Parents and carers are overwhelmingly effusive about the school and the education, care and additional experiences it offers their children. One parent summarised what many say, writing: ‘The Lea is a truly wonderful place, where all staff value, nurture and celebrate the talents and interests of all its pupils. It has a wonderful feeling of community and togetherness. It’s all the little things they do so well that make it such a fantastic school and why children enjoy learning so much.’ OFSTED 2018.
