The Lea Primary School and Nursery is a wonderful community to be part of. We enjoy a strong partnership with parents and carers; we have talented and committed staff, dedicated governors and most importantly – energetic, enthusiastic children. Together we work tirelessly to help the children to be the best they can be.
The school is located in a quiet area on the north-east corner of Harpenden. We are a welcoming one form entry school for boys and girls aged between three and eleven years. As a small school there is a caring, family atmosphere where all children are taught the importance of consideration and respect for other people and their beliefs. Visitors frequently remark on the friendly atmosphere that exists here. Our children are happy to come to school and are well looked after by our extremely caring and committed staff who work hard to make sure every lesson is creative, challenging and relevant to our children.
We were rated GOOD by Ofsted in February 2018.
The vast majority of our pupils move on to Harpenden secondary schools when they leave Year 6 including St George’s, Sir John Lawes, Roundwood Park and Katherine Warrington School.
Parent Survey 2022/23: “Fantastic leadership, amazing facilities and staffing (such as forest school, bikeability scheme, full time sports coach), wonderful supportive caring teachers, amazing wraparound care and clubs, great support staff, great PTA events, brilliant communication, wonderful facilities.”

Reception Parent, 2021: “We are really pleased we have chosen The Lea for our son. He has settled into Reception really well with the help of Mrs Gallagher and the early years team. Opportunities such as learning in Forest School are great as well as the Buddy system. The school has a lovely community feel which we are enjoying being part of!“
